María Jesús Montero will resign «imminently» as minister to focus on the 17M.

María Jesús Montero, the First Vice-President of the Government and Minister of Finance, will resign from both positions to focus on the Andalusian elections, scheduled for 17 May, where she is standing as a candidate for the PSOE. Montero made this announcement during a press conference at the PSOE-A headquarters in Seville and added that she will not resign from her seat in Congress, as she needs a public position to secure her job as a civil servant at the Virgen del Rocío hospital in Seville. The Secretary General of the Andalusian PSOE has described the elections on 17 May as a referendum on public healthcare, contrasting the model of the President of the Junta, Juanma Moreno, with that of her party. Montero affirmed that the question for voters in the Andalusian elections will be whether they opt for public healthcare or for Moreno Bonilla. She added that the period of Moreno Bonilla’s policies is coming to an end. We are confident that the people of Andalusia will choose public services such as healthcare, education, and housing.
