Mexican authorities report the escape of 23 prisoners in Puerto Vallarta following the operation against El Mencho.

Mexico City (EFE).- This Monday, authorities reported that an assault on the Ixtapa prison in Puerto Vallarta, Jalisco, allowed for the escape of 23 inmates and resulted in the death of a guard. The escape occurred on Sunday, following a military operation against the Jalisco New Generation Cartel, which ended with the death of its leader, Nemesio Oseguera Cervantes. The head of Security in Jalisco, Juan Pablo Hernández, stated that the assault was carried out from outside the prison, resulting in a mass escape. Alerts were activated in other states, and operations were implemented to recapture the fugitives. Hernández explained that there are 23 individuals who have escaped from custody, and alerts are being issued to various federal entities for their location and capture. The armed group fired at the facilities and used a vehicle to break down a gate, facilitating the inmates’ exit and leading to the death of a guard.
