Miguel Díaz-Canel: «Cuba is willing to engage in a dialogue with the United States.»

This Thursday, the Cuban president, Miguel Díaz-Canel, stated that the island is open to dialogue with the United States on «any matter» in order to establish «a civilised relationship between neighbours» that is of «mutual benefit». The president indicated that the island is willing to engage in dialogue with Washington from a «position of respect» towards the «sovereignty» and «self-determination» of the Caribbean nation, avoiding «issues» that could be seen as «interference». He emphasised that «from a dialogue of this type, a respectful neighbourhood relationship can be established». Among the issues that the Cuban government would be open to discussing with the United States are «migration issues, security, the fight against drug trafficking, the fight against terrorism, environmental matters, and scientific collaboration».
