Minister of Defence confirms attacks on civilian areas in Venezuela and says they are searching for possible victims.

Caracas (EFE).- This Saturday, Venezuela’s Defence Minister, Vladimir Padrino López, accused US helicopters of launching missiles against civilian areas in Caracas and other parts of the country, stating that they are trying to locate the injured or deceased. Padrino López claimed that this invasion is an affront motivated by greed for strategic resources. The Defence Minister indicated that missiles and rockets were launched from helicopters and described the attack as disgraceful. In this context, he called for the prevention of disorder and lack of control. This Saturday, the Venezuelan Government accused the United States of carrying out a military aggression in civilian and military areas of the capital and in the states of Miranda, Aragua, and La Guaira, and ordered the deployment of the command for the defence of the country. During the early hours of Saturday, explosions were reported in Caracas, La Guaira, and Miranda, in a climate of tensions with the United States, which in August sent warships and planes to the Caribbean Sea, near the coasts of Venezuela. This incident was described by Caracas as a threat. The President of the United States, Donald Trump, has ordered attacks in Venezuela, including military targets, as part of his pressure campaign against the Maduro Government, according to sources from the US Administration to CBS News. Fox News has also verified that Trump has ordered airstrikes against targets in Venezuela, focusing on the La Guaira region, near Maiquetía airport, as well as on an area encompassing military targets for Maduro’s regime. Trump warned in November about the possibility of attacks on Venezuelan territory in the context of his campaign against Venezuela and Nicolás Maduro’s government, whom he accuses of running a drug trafficking network. Last Friday, the US leader stated that an attack had been carried out against an installation as part of his fight against a drug trafficking network that, according to Washington, is run by Venezuela, although he did not clarify whether the incident occurred on Venezuelan territory.
