Montero warns on Los Desayunos de RTVE and EFE that the crisis from this war is «deeper» in political terms.

The Minister of Finance and First Deputy Prime Minister, María Jesús Montero, has indicated that the current international crisis triggered by the attack of the United States and Israel on Iran is more profound in political terms than previous crises. In a conversation on RTVE and EFE’s ‘Los desayunos’ programme, Montero spoke about the conflict in the Middle East and defended Spain’s position, stating that the country has a distinct and recognised voice at the international level, contributing solutions to global problems. Additionally, she criticised the PP for its alignment with the US administration. Montero distinguished this crisis from that caused by the covid pandemic or the conflict in Ukraine, noting that relations in Europe and with the United States were different in those cases. In her view, the current situation possesses political depth due to a challenge to the international order by the United States, along with Israel’s statements regarding a final war. For this reason, she expressed the Government’s concern regarding this global situation, stating that Spain’s position will remain firm in demanding de-escalation.
