The President of Venezuela, Nicolás Maduro, described himself as «an innocent man» regarding the drug trafficking accusations that the administration of Donald Trump is using to justify his arrest and transfer to the USA. He also declared himself a «prisoner of war» during his first appearance before the Southern District Court of New York. Maduro entered the court with a limp, wearing a prisoner’s uniform. During the hearing, which lasted less than an hour, Maduro used headphones to listen to the Spanish translation of what the judge, the prosecutors, and his lawyers were saying. He took notes, some of which he shared with his wife’s lawyers, and even requested the judge to allow him to keep his notes, which was permitted.
Nicolás Maduro claims his status as a «prisoner of war» and declares himself innocent.
