Brussels / Jerusalem / Tehran. – On Thursday, the foreign ministers of the European Union reached an agreement to add the Iranian Revolutionary Guard to the EU’s list of terrorist entities, due to the repression in the country, as reported by the head of European diplomacy, Kaja Kallas. Kallas stated that any government that takes the lives of thousands of its citizens is hastening its extinction. Following the agreement, the EU must formally approve the inclusion of the Revolutionary Guard on the list of terrorist organisations, which requires unanimous consent from its members. Kallas noted that risks have been assessed and that the diplomatic aspect is not included in the Revolutionary Guard. She also mentioned that interactions with the Iranian Foreign Minister are not affected. Diplomatic sources indicated that the Revolutionary Guard is already on the list of sanctioned regimes against Iran and is already being impacted. The President of the European Commission, Ursula von der Leyen, expressed her satisfaction with the political agreement, emphasising that it was something anticipated.
