Portugal elects a new president this Sunday, with the far-right candidate and the former socialist minister as favourites.

This Sunday, Portugal is holding presidential elections to find a replacement for Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa. Polls suggest that a second round will be needed between the far-right candidate, André Ventura, and the former Socialist minister António José Seguro. Voting began at 8:00 in the morning, local time, and will close at 19:00, also local time. In the Azores, polling stations will open an hour later. More than 11 million Portuguese citizens are called to vote, of which over 1.7 million live abroad, according to the electoral census of the General Secretariat of the Ministry of Internal Administration.
