Moscow.- Today, Russian Deputy Prime Minister Alexandr Novak reported that Russia will redirect part of its liquefied natural gas (LNG), currently destined for Europe, to other markets. “A decision has been made to divert a portion of the LNG volumes that are currently being sent to Europe towards other markets that are establishing ties with our nation,” Novak stated, according to reports from the Interfax agency. He added that Moscow will focus on markets where there is interest in its LNG and the opportunity to «establish long-term contracts.» He mentioned India, Thailand, the Philippines, and China. Novak declared that Russian companies will not wait for «new restrictions from Europe» and will begin signing long-term contracts with other buyers. Russian President Vladimir Putin stated that Russia is considering interrupting gas supplies to Europe before the European Union completely abandons Russian hydrocarbons. “Putin noted that it is expected that the EU will implement restrictions on the purchase of Russian gas, including liquefied gas, within a month, followed by more limitations a year later, in 2027, until a complete ban is reached.”
