Russia urges the United States to free Maduro and his wife.

Moscow (EFE).- Russia has called on the US authorities to release Venezuelan leader Nicolás Maduro and his wife, following confirmation from President Donald Trump regarding his detention. «We urge the US authorities to reconsider their position and release a president who was legitimately elected and his wife,» stated the Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs in a statement. Moscow advocated for the establishment of conditions that facilitate the resolution of the current conflict through dialogue. Hours earlier, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs demanded clarification on Maduro’s whereabouts and stated that his arrest would constitute an «unacceptable violation» of the sovereignty of an independent country. Moscow’s statements follow a telephone conversation between Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov and Venezuelan Vice President Delcy Rodríguez. Previously, several Western media outlets had speculated about Rodríguez’s trip to Russia amid the crisis that erupted in Venezuela following the US bombing this morning.
