Madrid. The Minister of Economy, Carlos Cuerpo, will assume the role of First Vice-President of the Government, while Arcadi España will take over from María Jesús Montero as Minister of Finance. The President of the Government, Pedro Sánchez, announced both appointments at the Palacio de la Moncloa during an official statement, in which he bid farewell to Montero, who is the PSOE candidate for the upcoming elections in Andalusia. Cuerpo is the first male socialist in the Government to hold a vice-presidency in Pedro Sánchez’s teams. Until now, only Pablo Iglesias had taken on that role, while the other vice-presidencies have been led by women.
Sánchez chooses Cuerpo as vice president and Arcadi España as the new Minister of Finance to replace Montero.
