Six communities on alert for snowfall and maritime conditions, with Galicia at orange level.

Madrid (EFE).- Galicia is under an orange alert due to a maritime storm generating waves of up to 6 metres, as well as snow, which is classified at a yellow level. Five other regions are on yellow alert for adverse conditions, including possible snowfall that could impact motorways in the north of the peninsula. The community of Madrid and Castilla y León are on yellow alert for snowfall. Asturias, Cantabria and the Basque Country are on yellow alert for adverse weather conditions at sea, according to the State Meteorological Agency (Aemet). Galicia is on orange alert for waves between 5 and 6 metres in A Coruña and areas of Lugo, as well as in Rías Baixas and the River Miño. Snowfall is anticipated in the mountainous area of Ourense, with accumulations of up to 5 centimetres over a 24-hour period at altitudes of approximately 1,000-1,200 metres, which could impact the A-52 at the border with Sanabria. The Sanabria region is also on yellow alert for snowfall, with accumulations of 5 centimetres over a 24-hour period and an altitude above 800-900 metres, as well as in the Cantabrian Mountains in Palencia and the slopes of León. The central system of Ávila, Segovia and Salamanca is also on yellow alert, with snowfall and accumulations of 5 centimetres over a 24-hour period, and the snowline will be between 900 and 1,100 metres. In the Sierra de Madrid, snow is expected to begin accumulating from 1,400 metres, with a thickness of up to 5 centimetres over a 24-hour period. Additionally, coastal areas of Cantabria, Asturias and the Basque Country are on yellow alert for coastal phenomena, where waves of between 4 and 5 metres are anticipated. The central depression of Lleida, in Catalonia, is under yellow alert due to fog reducing visibility to 100 metres, while the Girona Pyrenees will be on alert for minimum temperatures that may reach -6 degrees in Cerdanya.
