Spain denies the White House and rejects having agreed to cooperate with the US Army against Iran.

Madrid/Washington (EFE) – The Minister of Foreign Affairs, José Manuel Albares, has rejected the claim that Spain has reached an agreement to collaborate with the United States military, as indicated by the White House spokesperson, Karoline Leavitt. Minister Albares stated in an interview with SER chain that the Spanish government’s position regarding the conflict in the Middle East, the airstrikes in Iran, and the use of our bases remains unchanged. Albares has emphasised the «No to war» sentiment that the Prime Minister, Pedro Sánchez, has expressed in his institutional declaration, a stance that has received support from «numerous European colleagues». The minister was referring to the spokesperson’s statements from the White House, who claimed that «in the last few hours» Spain had «decided to collaborate with the United States military» following President Donald Trump’s warning about a possible trade embargo against Madrid due to Spain’s refusal to allow the Pentagon to use its facilities at Spanish bases for operations against Iran.
