Spain summons the Iranian ambassador to express its «repulsion» at the repression in Iran.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs has summoned the Iranian ambassador to Spain, Reza Zabib, to express its rejection of the repression of protests in Iran. The Minister of Foreign Affairs, José Manuel Albares, has expressed his concern over the events in Iran and has explained the reason behind the decision to call the Iranian ambassador. He will be informed of the importance of respecting the right of Iranians to protest and their freedom of expression. Furthermore, the urgency of restoring communications and access to the internet in the country, as well as ending detentions and ensuring the rights of women, will be communicated to him. Albares has pointed out that Iran needs to return to the tables of dialogue and negotiation, highlighting the importance of women in the protests. The Spanish Government rejects violence against protesters in Iran and demands that the authorities of that country respect and protect the right to freedom of expression and peaceful assembly.
