The Anti-Drug Prosecutor’s Office rejects the investigation into Zapatero for drug trafficking due to his relationship with Maduro.

The Anti-Drug Prosecutor’s Office has rejected the lawsuit filed by Hazte Oír against former Prime Minister José Luis Rodríguez Zapatero, accusing him of crimes related to drug trafficking due to his connections with former Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro, as no evidence was found to support the allegations. According to the report sent to National Court Judge Antonio Piña, the lawsuit charges Zapatero with crimes related to drug trafficking, money laundering, and organised crime, suggesting that several of these crimes are already the subject of investigation in other cases. This is mentioned in reports from the Central Operational Unit of the Civil Guard recorded in other proceedings, so there is no need to initiate a new inquiry into the same facts. In relation to the possible money laundering, the Prosecutor’s Office does not observe any evidence that the money or assets come from activities linked to drug trafficking that can be attributed to the defendant or anyone he is collaborating with. The report notes that there are no mentioned facts or alleged crimes that could be related to the funds that the accused and his family would have used to increase their wealth.
