Madrid. This Sunday, two high-speed trains derailed in Adamuz, Córdoba, leaving at least 39 dead and around a hundred injured. This incident is the fourth most serious railway accident in the history of Spain. The deadliest disaster in Spain occurred on 3rd January 1944, when the express train 421, travelling from Madrid to Galicia, collided with a moving locomotive upon leaving the Torre del Bierzo station in León. Franco’s regime concealed the accident, and although Renfe later provided an official figure of 78 dead and 75 injured, it is estimated that the actual number of fatalities was in the hundreds, approximately 500, according to different sources.
