The five young people who lost their lives in the Manlleu fire, secondary school students aged 14 to 18, were trapped in a storage room without ventilation, where they used to gather. This morning, the Mossos d’Esquadra investigated the storage room, searching for clues about the causes of the fire. It is suspected that it may have started due to combustion, possibly from a cigarette, that ignited the furniture stored in the space, located on the rooftop of a building inhabited by families in vulnerable situations. The fire was not accompanied by explosions, so the police of Catalonia rule out that it was caused by the explosion of helium cylinders that were mentioned to possibly be in the storage room, as none have been found at the scene of the fire.
The deceased teenagers became trapped by the smoke in the storeroom where they gathered.
