The members of the European Union expressed support for Denmark and Greenland following the crisis with the United States and indicated that they could take action if transatlantic relations deteriorate. The leaders of the Twenty-Seven issued a statement during the emergency summit to discuss Donald Trump’s warnings towards several European countries, following his intention to take control of the Arctic island that belongs to Denmark. The meeting took place at the end of a week of diplomatic activity in Brussels to address the crisis in relations with Washington and exchanges among leaders. Trump backed down on his warnings about the use of military force and the possibility of reinstating tariffs. Additionally, he communicated a preliminary agreement on the security of Greenland with NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte.
