The EU proposes to allocate 60 billion from the loan to Ukraine for military support and 30 billion to the budget.

Brussels.- This Wednesday, the European Commission suggested that of the €90 billion the European Union plans to lend to Ukraine in 2026 and 2027, €60 billion should be allocated to military support and €30 billion to budget assistance. The President of the European Commission, Ursula von der Leyen, stated at a press conference that the resources would be used for the acquisition of military material within the European Union and in the European region. Von der Leyen detailed that the assistance would be divided into two parts: two-thirds, amounting to €60 billion, would be assigned to military aid, while the remaining third, totalling €30 billion, would be offered as budgetary support. The assistance will enable Ukraine to strengthen its defensive capabilities and ensure the continuity of state operations and public services, as well as to promote the country’s resilience and its integration into the European defence industry. At the summit last December, EU leaders decided to finance this loan through the issuance of joint debt backed by the community budget, due to the lack of support for using funds generated from frozen Russian assets in the EU.
