The European Commission tightens its visa policy and links it to cooperation on returns.

Brussels.- This Thursday, the European Commission presented the EU’s visa strategy, which involves a process for granting visas and links it to the collaboration of third countries on returns and readmissions. This strategy suggests the possibility of suspending, rejecting, or limiting the issuance of visas to countries that take actions that threaten the security of the EU, in addition to focusing on attracting talent and using digital tools for administration. The Commission explained that one of the foundations of this plan is to strengthen the security of the EU through oversight of the current visa waiver systems, with the aim of ensuring compliance and preventing abuse of visa-free travel. The European Union has agreements with several countries that allow their citizens to enter the Schengen area without the need for a visa.
