Madrid (EFE).- This Friday, the five Spanish prisoners released in Venezuela have landed at Adolfo Suárez Madrid-Barajas airport on a flight from Bogotá. José María Basoa, Andrés Martínez Adasme, Miguel Moreno Dapena, Ernesto Gorbe Cardona, and Rocío San Miguel arrived at terminal 4, as confirmed by the Minister of Foreign Affairs, José Manuel Albares, in a message on the social network X. Following the detention of Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro by the United States, the new government of Delcy Rodríguez has allowed for the release of a significant number of people, both Venezuelans and foreigners, as a gesture to strengthen peace and coexistence in the country, including these five Spanish citizens. On Thursday, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs announced the release of these Spanish citizens, who are part of a substantial number of detainees whose release was announced by the Venezuelan authorities. José María Basoa and Andrés Martínez Adasme were detained and accused of conspiring to carry out acts in September 2024, in a context of tension with Spain following the arrival in Madrid of the exiled opposition leader Edmundo González. Another of the released prisoners is the Canary Islands journalist Miguel Moreno Dapena, who was detained in June when Venezuela intercepted the marine exploration vessel he was on. Rocío San Miguel, who holds both Spanish and Venezuelan nationality, was arrested in February 2024. She is a lawyer and, before being arrested, served as the director of the organisation Control Ciudadano. According to Amnesty International, she has been suffering from a fracture that was treated late and requires surgery for several months.
