Madrid. This Thursday, the Minister of Defence, Margarita Robles, informed that the Government will consider the possibility of sending military assistance to safeguard Cyprus if the European Union requests it due to the conflict in Iran. Robles clarified in an interview with Ser that «there is a difference between attack missions and defence missions.» Furthermore, she emphasised that Spain is a «committed ally» of the United Nations, NATO, and the European Union. In this context, she highlighted that it is not a «detail» that in Spain the ministry is called Defence, while in the United States it has become the Department of War. In this way, she stressed that Spain will support the European Union in defending the principles of coexistence and peace, and that if requested, the Government «will consider and evaluate it.» The minister stated that the Spanish troops deployed in Turkey were not responsible for intercepting the missile launched by Iran, although they did provide «sufficient information» for it to be shot down.
