The IAEA warns of the impact of a projectile on a nuclear power plant in southern Iran.

This Wednesday, the International Atomic Energy Agency reported that Iran informed it about the impact of a projectile at the Bushehr nuclear plant, located in the south of the country, with no damage recorded at the facility and no injuries among the staff. The incident occurs amid rising tensions between Iran and Israel, following missile attacks that Tehran carried out against Tel Aviv in response to the death of Ali Larijani, former speaker of the Iranian Parliament. According to the IAEA, the incident at Bushehr did not have repercussions on essential systems nor did it cause leaks of nuclear material, suggesting that the safety of the plant remains adequately managed. The Bushehr nuclear plant, which is the only one operational in Iran and was built with assistance from Russia, is considered delicate due to the presence of nuclear material and the potential repercussions of a direct attack. Grossi has noted that any military operation near nuclear facilities increases risks to radiological safety and the civilian population. Additionally, he urged all parties to prevent an escalation that could have catastrophic consequences.
