The IEA warns that the current energy crisis is «very severe» and surpasses that of 1970.

Sydney (Australia) The Executive Director of the International Energy Agency, Fatih Birol, stated that the situation is serious and surpasses the energy crises of the 1970s, in a context affected by the closure of the Strait of Hormuz and attacks on energy facilities in the Middle East. In a talk at the National Press Club of Australia, Birol emphasised that the current crisis resembles two oil crises and a gas collapse, referring to the energy crises of 1973 and 1979 that were caused by embargoes and reductions in oil production in the Middle East, which constitutes a threat to the global economy. Birol warned about the damage suffered by the energy sector in the region, noting that at least 40 infrastructures have been impacted in nine nations, increasing uncertainty regarding supply.
