The global unemployment rate is expected to remain close to 4.9% in 2026, equivalent to 185.8 million people, maintaining the same levels as in 2024 and 2025, according to projections from the International Labour Organization. The ILO warns of a slowdown in the improvement of working conditions. In the report published by the ILO on social and labour trends for 2026, it is anticipated that the unemployment rate will decrease to 4.8% in 2027, which equates to 186.9 million people. In Europe, the unemployment rate is expected to remain at 5.5% during 2026 and 2027, the same as in the previous two years. This would translate to 24.9 million unemployed individuals this year and 24.7 million the next. The ILO estimates that the unemployment rate across the Americas will be 5% in 2026 and 2027, equivalent to 26.7 million people this year and 26.4 million the next.
