The Indonesian police are investigating whether there was negligence in the shipwreck involving Spaniards.

The Indonesian Police have opened an investigation to determine whether a crime was committed in the sinking of a tourist boat that occurred last Friday, which was carrying six Spaniards on board. One person has died and three are still missing after eight days of searching. The inquiry began on Wednesday and is being conducted by the East Manggarai Police Station, located in Labuan Bajo, which is the gateway to the Komodo National Park. From there, a part of the search operations is coordinated. Henry Novika Chandra, the head of Public Relations of the Regional Police in the province of East Nusa Tenggara, explained that by 4:00 PM local time on Friday, they had interviewed eight witnesses and individuals connected to the case. The Police mentioned that they would conduct interrogations with the witnesses, the crew of the boat, and the operator, and will investigate the seaworthiness of the boat and compliance with maritime safety protocols. The document also noted that the investigation is being carried out to clarify the facts and determine whether there was negligence or criminal conduct in this incident. The search for the three Spaniards who are missing reached its eighth day on Friday.
