The Israeli government has decided to repeal a Jordanian law that prohibits non-Arabs from purchasing land in the West Bank. This regulation has been an obstacle for Israeli settlers in acquiring property in this Palestinian territory under Israeli occupation. Finance Minister Bezalel Smotrich, along with Defence Minister Israel Katz, announced that this measure was approved in the Political and Security Cabinet meeting of Benjamin Netanyahu’s government. Smotrich stated that it is rooting presence throughout the land of Israel and dismissing the notion of a Palestinian state. The government’s approval of the repeal did not specify whether it will be implemented automatically or if it will require ratification by the Knesset. This Jordanian law, enacted in 1953, has restricted settlers from acquiring private land, as they were required to do so through companies registered with the Civil Administration.
