The judge in Catarroja overseeing the criminal case related to the management of the storm will request the assistance of the judicial police to obtain the WhatsApp messages from the mobile phone of José Manuel Cuenca, who was the chief of staff for Carlos Mazón during his presidency of the Generalitat, corresponding to 29 October 2024, the date on which the storm occurred. The review conducted on the phone that Cuenca was using on the day of the disappearance has concluded without recovering the messages sent and received on that date. However, the witness has consented for the instructor to request those messages from Meta Platforms, the company that owns the WhatsApp messaging application. The lawyer Mamen Peris, who represents the popular accusation from Ciudadanos, has stated that the instructor, in collaboration with the Public Prosecutor’s Office, has decided that the judicial police will handle the request to Meta. Peris has also noted that she has observed Cuenca as someone cooperative and emphasised that, in her opinion, the WhatsApp messages are proving to be of great assistance to the case.
