Madrid. While efforts are underway to locate bodies in the derailed trains in Adamuz (Córdoba) – 41 of the 43 victims have been identified – the investigation has uncovered marks on the wheels of the carriages that were in front of the one that derailed, and new audio recordings have been released regarding communications between the Atocha control centre and the involved trains. The Minister of Transport, Óscar Puente, has indicated that marks have been found on the bogies of the first five carriages of the Iryo train, and it is «likely» that the two or three trains that operated earlier showed «similar marks». However, the trains that travelled through that section of the track more than an hour before the accident do not display the marks on their wheels that are present on those that passed afterwards, including the derailed train. The issue to be determined, according to Puente, is «whether there was any object on the track or if the track itself was beginning to deteriorate.»
The latest on the Adamuz accident: Investigators are looking into the marks on the wheels and new audio recordings have emerged.
