The new supreme leader of Iran challenges the US and calls for the closure of Hormuz in his first message.

Tehran, (EFE).- In his first speech as supreme leader of the Islamic Republic, Mojtaba Khamenei urged for the Strait of Hormuz to remain closed, threatening US bases in the Middle East and asserting that the «blood of the martyrs» will be avenged. «The Strait of Hormuz must remain closed,» emphasised the new political and religious authority of Iran in a statement read by a presenter on state television.
