The PSOE will commit to María Jesús Montero leading up to the elections on 17 May in Andalucía and is organising a deployment of ministers and Socialist leaders to support the Minister of Finance in a campaign designed to highlight her policies for the benefit of the broad social majority. The campaign’s focus will be on contrasting the social policies of the PP, which, according to PSOE sources, benefit only a few. Although the official campaign will not start until 1 May, a pre-campaign has already begun since Montero stepped down from the Council of Ministers. After resigning from her positions, Montero returns to Andalucía and is convinced she can take on the PP led by President Juanma Moreno. Those within Montero’s team highlight that the polls are favourable for her candidacy, which will focus on defending public services. Furthermore, they believe that the PP candidate will attempt to position himself as the stability alternative for the citizens of Andalucía. This could be his advantage, as they assert that Moreno is unable to justify his policies concerning the issues that concern the people of Andalucía, particularly in relation to healthcare and housing, areas where he does not accept his responsibility as president of the Junta.
The PSOE is preparing a «landing» of ministers in Andalusia to support Montero.
