The Public Prosecutor’s Office insists to the Supreme Court on keeping Ábalos in prison due to a flight risk.

The Anti-Corruption Prosecutor’s Office has requested that the Supreme Court continue the provisional detention of the former Minister of Transport, José Luis Ábalos, who has been in this situation since 27th November, due to the trial for illegal commissions related to contracts for face masks. This Thursday, the court held the first of two private hearings to examine the appeals submitted by Ábalos’s lawyers and his former advisor against his imprisonment. Legal sources have reported that all parties have confirmed their documents before the court. The chief prosecutor of Anti-Corruption, Alejandro Luzón, has requested that the former minister remains in preventive detention, just as the popular accusation led by the PP has also requested. The defence for the former minister has argued that there is no danger of him fleeing, as he attended the hearing convened by the judge to evaluate his precautionary measures.
