The Taliban seek mediation from Saudi Arabia in the conflict with Pakistan, but Islamabad rejects dialogue.

Kabul/Islamabad (EFE).– This Saturday, Amir Khan Muttaqi, the Taliban’s Foreign Minister, had a telephone call with his Saudi counterpart, Faisal bin Farhan, to discuss the escalating hostilities with Pakistan and to explore options for reducing tensions through regional diplomacy. According to an announcement from the Afghan Foreign Ministry, Muttaqi informed the Saudi Foreign Minister that Kabul’s military operations were “defensive and aimed at managing and controlling the situation.” The Taliban official emphasised that Afghanistan «has no intentions toward any country» and expressed gratitude for Riyadh’s efforts to promote stability in the region, according to the document. For his part, Prince Faisal bin Farhan stressed during the conversation the importance of «decreasing tensions in the region» and addressing conflicts through diplomacy, according to the Taliban’s statement.
