The administration of US President Donald Trump rejected opposition leader María Corina Machado as an option to address the issues in Venezuela following the detention of President Nicolás Maduro, and instead, offered an opportunity to the government now led by Vice President Delcy Rodríguez. US Secretary of State Marco Rubio stated that most of the opposition is no longer in Venezuela and that there are urgent matters that need to be addressed.
