Caracas (EFE).- This Thursday, the National Assembly of Venezuela approved an amnesty law for political prisoners convicted during the political crisis between 2002 and 2025. This law does not include those who incited or participated in violent actions against citizens or the sovereignty of the country. Article 9 stipulates that the amnesty shall not apply to crimes related to human rights violations, crimes against humanity, homicide, serious injuries, drug trafficking, or crimes related to corruption. It is also prohibited for individuals undergoing legal proceedings or who could be convicted for armed actions against the people to do so in the name of foreigners. Legislators approved amnesty for actions taken during political crises between 2002 and 2025, including the coup against Hugo Chávez in April 2002, the oil strike at the end of that year and early 2003, and protests against the government in 2013, 2017, and 2024.
The Venezuelan Parliament approves a historic amnesty law that does not pardon armed actions.
