Madrid (EFE).- This Saturday, thousands of individuals are demonstrating in various cities across Spain demanding an end to the war in Iran, alongside figures from culture, society, and politics. This action has the support of more than 200 organisations, under the slogan «It is necessary to stop the war in the Middle East. Do not forget Gaza.» The platform StopTheWar has emphasised that the demonstrations scheduled for this Saturday in more than 150 cities are peaceful and that none will take place in front of embassies or consulates. The initiative centres around the manifesto ‘It is necessary to stop the war in the Middle East’, which has received the backing of over 200 figures, including the coordinator of Sumar, Lara Hernández, and the President of the PSOE in Madrid, Paca Sauquillo, who participated in the gathering in Madrid. In the capital of Spain, around 5,000 people, according to the organisers, gathered in front of the Reina Sofía Museum. During the demonstration, chants such as «No to war», «Who decides here? The Iranian people», and «Every people, every square, we are all Gaza» were heard, alongside placards calling for «Peace.» The event opened with speeches from representatives of the organisations that comprise StopTheWar, as well as cultural professionals and members of the Iranian Association for Human Rights. A tribute was paid to the NGOs that have been expelled from Gaza, concluding with the presentation of ‘I Only Ask God’.
Thousands of people in Spain are calling to ‘stop the war’ alongside personalities from the cultural world.
