The Minister of Transport and Sustainable Mobility, Óscar Puente, stated that in the twenty minutes prior to the train accident in Adamuz, «around three trains» passed over the same track without any incidents being reported. In an interview on the programme ‘Malas Lenguas’ on La 2, Puente dismissed the possibility that excessive speed of the Iryo train was the cause of the derailment, as that section of track has a speed limit of 250 kilometres per hour and, according to the information they have, the train was travelling at approximately 200 kilometres «or a little less». The minister indicated that there are safety systems that activate if an issue occurs on the track that prevents train passage, and no alerts were registered when the trains that preceded the Iryo that had the accident were in transit.
