A criminal investigation has been initiated against the French couple who operated the bar «Le Constellation» in Crans Montana, where a fire occurred on New Year’s Eve. The Police of the Canton of Valais have indicated that they are accused of manslaughter due to negligence, bodily harm due to negligence, and arson due to negligence, emphasising that the presumption of innocence is maintained until a verdict is issued. In the incident, 40 people lost their lives and 119 were injured. The first four victims have been identified, all Swiss: two women aged 21 and 16, and two men aged 18 and 16, whose bodies have been returned to their families.
