Trump announces that he will meet with Petro soon after a phone call.

Bogotá.- This Wednesday, the President of the United States, Donald Trump, expressed his interest in meeting with his Colombian counterpart, Gustavo Petro, following a phone conversation. This communication comes in a context of tensions between both governments, due to the Republican’s criticisms of the Colombian president and Bogotá’s opposition to the US military operation in Venezuela, which resulted in the detention of President Nicolás Maduro and his wife, Cilia Flores. Trump mentioned on his platform Truth Social that he had a conversation with President Petro, who contacted him to discuss the problem of drug trafficking and other disagreements between their administrations. The President of the United States indicated that he valued the call and expressed his interest in meeting with his Colombian colleague in the near future. The President also noted that Secretary of State Marco Rubio, along with Colombia’s Foreign Minister, Rosa Villavicencio, are making the necessary preparations for the meeting, which will take place at the White House in Washington.
