Trump claims that his new tariffs will not require any approval from Congress.

Washington. The President of the United States, Donald Trump, stated on Tuesday during his State of the Union address to Congress that the new 10% taxes he has implemented following the Supreme Court’s decision regarding his tariffs policy will not require Congressional approval to remain in place permanently. The Republican asserted that the new customs tariffs introduced today are more complicated but possibly more effective, resulting in a more robust solution than the previous one. Trump declared that Congressional intervention will not be necessary, although the regulations he has used to establish these new taxes stipulate that tariffs can only be applied for a period of 150 days if Congress grants its consent. Trump’s statements suggest that he will not seek legislative support to implement this new phase of his trade policy. The President justified the implementation of tariffs on imports, hinting that these will replace individual tax revenue. He expressed that the tariffs paid by foreign countries will largely substitute the current income tax system, which will relieve the economic burden on individuals.
