Trump on Greenland: «I don’t want to resort to force. I won’t resort to force.»

Davos (Switzerland), (EFE).- This Wednesday, during the Davos Forum, the President of the United States, Donald Trump, asserted that in expressing his interest in acquiring the Arctic island of Greenland, he does not intend to use force. However, he emphasised his desire to initiate negotiations for its purchase. «I request negotiations to reassess the purchase of Greenland by the United States.» In this context, he mentioned that both the United States and other European nations had acquired other territories throughout history, and that there was nothing wrong with acquiring this Danish territory. «It is a matter of national security for the United States of America, and it has been our policy for centuries to prevent external threats from entering our hemisphere, and we have successfully achieved that,» he said, before claiming that the United States had never been stronger than it is today. Regarding the purchase of this territory, which has caused discomfort in the European Union, Trump added: «That is why American presidents have tried to buy Greenland for almost two centuries.»
