Ankara reported on the deployment of six F-16 fighter jets and air defence systems to the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus, a region that is only recognised by Ankara. This action is part of strategies to strengthen its security in the Middle East conflict. The Ministry of Defence issued a statement indicating that the aim of the deployment is to «strengthen the security of the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus in light of recent developments in our area.» Additionally, it was reported that the six F-16 fighter jets and air defence systems will be sent to the TRNC, and that new actions will be evaluated depending on the evolution of the situation, as stated by Defence. The shipment of Turkish fighter jets to the island follows the deployment of four F-16s by Greece to the military base in Paphos, located in western Cyprus, in response to an attack with Iranian drones launched from Lebanon against a British airbase on the island.
