Von der Leyen overcomes her fourth motion of censure in seven months before the European Parliament.

Strasbourg (France) (EuroEFE).- This Thursday, Ursula von der Leyen, President of the European Commission, successfully fended off a motion of censure put forward by the far-right in the European Parliament. This is the fourth motion since last July, and it did not reach the two-thirds majority in the chamber that was required to dismiss the Community Executive. With 165 votes in favour, 390 against and ten abstentions, the Patriots for Europe failed to achieve their aim of ousting the European Commission led by Von der Leyen, primarily due to the signing of the trade agreement between the European Union and Mercosur, which they consider detrimental to the interests of European farmers. The motion of censure was supported by MEPs from the Patriots group, as well as by some members of the European Conservatives and Reformists and of the Europe of Sovereign Nations, surpassing the minimum of 72 signatures required by the European Parliament to submit a motion of censure. It is more challenging to secure the two-thirds needed for it to succeed, something that none of the four motions of censure against Von der Leyen since July 2025 has accomplished.
