Von der Leyen says that the EU «will always respect international law.»

Ursula von der Leyen, President of the European Commission, stated that the European Union will uphold the principles of the United Nations and international law, emphasising that the EU was born as a project of peace. The current situation in the world does not diminish our resolve to work towards the future we desire. The EU was established as a peace project. Our commitment to peace, the principles set out in the United Nations Charter, and international law remains fundamental today as it was at the time of our founding. We will always be ready to defend these principles, Von der Leyen asserted in the European Parliament.
