Work continues following the accident in Adamuz, and several hypotheses remain open regarding the causes.

Madrid (EFE). This Thursday, work is taking place in the area of the railway disaster in Adamuz (Córdoba), marking the fourth day of operations, while questions in the investigation persist and 42 of the 43 deceased individuals have been identified. The Minister of Transport, Óscar Puente, has indicated that investigators are trying to determine «if there was any object on the track or if the track was beginning to deteriorate.» The most likely cause of the accident is believed to be a break in the rail or in the welding, according to Iñaki Barrón, president of the Railway Accident Investigation Commission (CIAF). The investigation has shown that there are marks on the wheels of the carriages that were in front of the one that derailed. Recordings of conversations among train staff reveal that the driver of the Iryo was not aware of the impact, and that the control centre at Atocha station attempted to communicate with the Alvia driver, who was likely already dead. Due to his lack of response, they managed to get in touch with the conductor, who mentioned that he had «blood on his head.» This is what is known about the accident so far.
