Works on death, migrants or fires, finalists for the King of Spain Awards

Madrid (EFE).- Among the finalists for the International King of Spain Journalism Awards are investigations into death, the trafficking of women in Brazil, wildfires in Portugal, the drowning of migrants in Mexico, and the disaster caused by the DANA that affected Valencia in 2024. An international panel selected the finalists for these awards in the Ibero-American sphere, which includes a prize of 10,000 euros in each category. A total of 230 entries have been submitted from around 20 countries. Since 1983, these awards, organised by the EFE Agency and the Spanish Agency for International Development Cooperation, have honoured the reporting work of journalists who work in Spanish and Portuguese in the countries of the Ibero-American Community of Nations, as well as those with historical ties and cultural and cooperative relations with Spain. In its 43rd edition, the jury has selected two finalists in each of the six categories, from which the winners will be determined and announced next Friday, 27 February. In each category, there are two finalists: Narrative Journalism (with 81 submissions), Environmental (60), International Cooperation and Humanitarian Aid (36), Cultural (33), Photography (10), and the award for the Best Ibero-American Media Outlet (10).
