Yolanda Díaz announces that she will not run again as a candidate for Sumar in the upcoming elections.

Madrid. This Wednesday, the Second Deputy Prime Minister of the Government, Yolanda Díaz, announced through her social media that she will not be running as a candidate in the upcoming general elections. This decision has been communicated to her family, her political group, and the Prime Minister, Pedro Sánchez. «I want to inform you that I will not be participating as a candidate in the general elections of 2027.» I have made a decision that I have reflected on and shared with my loved ones, my political environment, and the Prime Minister,» she wrote in a letter published on the social network Bluesky. Firstly, she admits that she always had «great reservations about the possibility of running» in the general elections of 2023 and mentions that «politics is a difficult field, especially for women,» although she emphasises that she does not regret having made that decision at the time. Díaz’s statement comes during a period of restructuring of the Sumar coalition, the group she organised and led in the past elections. Furthermore, there is uncertainty about who will lead this new alliance, which currently includes Movimiento Sumar, IU, Más Madrid, and the commons.
