The former Prime Minister of Government, José Luis Rodríguez Zapatero, is in Caracas after being invited by the coordinator of the ‘Programme for Peace and Democratic Coexistence’, an initiative of Venezuela’s interim president, Delcy Rodríguez, as confirmed by the office of the former leader. In a statement, it details that Zapatero received the invitation on 30 January to participate in this programme and share his opinions and experiences in promoting dialogue. On 23 January, Delcy Rodríguez presented the programme with the aim of convening a political dialogue in the country, which includes both coinciding and diverging sectors, and assigned this task to the president of the Venezuelan National Assembly, Jorge Rodríguez. Two days ago, it was reported that members of the Venezuelan government had met with opposition parties to initiate a political dialogue. Present at this meeting was deputy Henrique Capriles, who has been a presidential candidate twice. Rodríguez has acknowledged Zapatero’s role in the process that has begun in Venezuela following Maduro’s arrest, expressing gratitude at the beginning of January for the efforts of the former Spanish president and Brazilian president, Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva, in the release of political prisoners.
