Kiev (EFE) – This Tuesday, the President of Ukraine, Volodymyr Zelensky, announced that he has begun talks with the President of the European Commission, Ursula von der Leyen, and the President of the European Council, António Costa, regarding the details of the European security guarantee that will accompany the country’s integration into the European Union, emphasising that he hopes for this to occur in 2027. Zelensky stated that it is important to have initiated work on the specifics of a security guarantee for Ukraine and Europe, as well as a timeline for Ukraine’s integration into the European Union. Zelensky expressed his desire for this to happen by this date so that Russian President Vladimir Putin does not have the capacity to obstruct our incorporation. «We are seeking an accelerated process for accession and we are grateful for the support and for the candidate country status from the EU institutions,» he added.
